Imphal, January 07 2025:
Unity among the indigenous people and a strong Meitei community are a must for Manipur to protect and preserve its integrity, said United Committee Manipur (UCM) president YK Dhiren.
He said this during a discourse on the theme "Eikhoi Amuk Hanna Khuntak-laroisi" at Irabot Memorial Park, Keibi Manaching today.
As a part of 191st National Reconsolidation Month, being observed by the United People's Front (UPF), Manipur, the discussion was co-organised by Eramdam Kanba Lup (EKL) .
At the discussion, UCM president YK Dhiren spoke about issues plaguing the State, and asserted that preserving Manipur's integrity depends on a strong Meitei society.
A weak Meitei society will prove to be detrimental to Manipur's integrity.
Manipur will be strong when the Meitei society is strong, he said.
"Our forefathers were strong and this enabled them to protect and preserve Manipur.
There was unity and peaceful coexistence among the different indigenous communities.
Today, there are forces trying to break this unity.
Manipur must be saved from the schemes of the Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists and Government of India," YK Dhiren said.
The political leaders of the State must look beyond party affiliation and unite.
They must work collectively and exert pressure on the Centre to save Manipur's integrity, he said.
On the other hand, people must not be driven by emotion in their actions.
All the indigenous communities must be united to save Manipur, he added.
Echoing a similar call, UPF advisor Khomdram Ratan said political leaders and elected leaders in the State Government must not dance to the tune of the Government at the Centre.
"Seeing elected leaders paying tributes to forefathers and pretending to be patriots when they can't even protect their citizens, women and children is shameful," he said.
"It is time for elected leaders to shun the culture of waiting for Centre's nod to act on any matter.
Manipur may cease to exist if we continue to trust and wait for others and the Government of India to save us," Ratan said.
People must understand and know who are "our foes" and "friends".
People must understand who is fuelling and driving the crisis.
"If Manipur is not saved now, future generations will judge us," he said.
UPF president Nongthombam Rupachandra, Irabot Memorial Trust Committee president Laishram Gunindro, EKL president H Ibohalbi and leaders of several units of Arambai Tenggol attended the discussion.
