Drug seizure case : Henry, co-accused fail to turn up

Imphal, October 06 2016: Okram Henry and two other accused including one non-local man failed to appear before the Special Court, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (ND& PS) Lamphelpat today in a drug seizure case.

The five alleged accused against whom CBI Special Branch Kolkata filed a charge sheet on April 18 this year are Okram Henry, Sapam Angus @ Naoba @ Nanao, Md Rajauddin and two non local proprietors of two pharmacies, Ramveer Tyagi and Rajneesh Kumar of Gaziabad.

The charge sheet was filed before the Court by BB Chakravarty, DSP CBI Special Crime Branch, Kolkata.

Nonetheless, two non-locals accused Rajneesh Kumar of Gaziabad and Md Rajauddin appeared before the Court today.

The other accused Okram Henry, Sapam Angus and Ramveer Tyagi were represented by their respective counsels and they (counsels) filed an application seeking relaxation of their clients from attending the Court.

During the charge consideration hearing, CBI counseland defence counsels of the accused gave their submissions under section 9 and section 25 of ND&PS Act.

CBI prosecution counsel also submitted a written argument before the Court, Defence counsels of Ramveer Tyagi and Rajneesh Kumar prayed for time to submit written arguments which were heard and allowed by the Court.

The submissions of both the counsels regarding the sections 9 and 25 of ND&PS Act were heard by the Judge who fixed October 10 for the next charge consideration hearing of the case.

It may be mentioned that CBI Kolkata had filed a charge sheet against O Henry and four others.

On January 11, 2013, a team of Special Intelligence Unit (SIU) of Manipur Police, (now disbanded) acting under the supervision of then Inspector K Ranjit seized seven cartons suspected to be containing contraband drugs from Imphaf Tulihal International airport which were transported from Kolkata to Imphal by air.

During the search of the unattended seven cartons in the presence of some witnesses, a large number of Robocoff tablets, Seafied tablets and Respified tablets after were detected after which the seven cartons were handed over to Singjamei police station.

A few days after the seizure of the drug consignment, SIU Manipur was disbanded.

The investigation of the case was transferred to CBI on March 6 .

Subsequently, CBI Special Crime Branch Kolkata registered a case for further investigation and on completing the investigation, a charge sheet was submitted before the Special Court, ND&PS on April 18 this year.
