Curtail violence in State: KMA to Centre

Imphal, June 06 2023: The Korea Manipuri Association (KMA) has urged the Centre to de-escalate the ongoing violence in the State by controlling the "armed Kuki militants and their allies infiltrating from Myanmar" through a letter addressed to the Embassy of India, Seoul.

The letter signed by Professor Nahakpam Bidhan, president KMA and in association with Global Manipur Federation (GMF) also called upon the Centre to rearrange and recheck the recent deployment of the Central armed forces in Manipur, to end the involvement of the Assam Rifles (AR) immediately, to make National Highway 2 a safe road and allow free movement of vehicles along this lifeline of the State.

Furthermore, KMA went on to urge the State and Central Government to address the key issues by thoroughly understanding the root causes of the present crisis.

Thus, it implored the State and Central Government to act on the armed infiltrators crossing the Indo-Myanmar border and creating havoc in the lives of peacefully living inhabitants at foothills of Manipur and to put an end to unchecked mass deforestation and poppy cultivation in the hills of Manipur.

It added that the Central and Government need to act immediately on relief measures which include compensation to the families who have suffered loss of lives, reconstruction of houses and resettlement of the displaced people to their original locations/homes and implementation of National Register for Citizens (NRC) in Manipur at the earliest possible.

In the letter, KMA also mentioned the incident wherein personnel of Rapid Action Force (RAF) were caught attempting to set ablaze a shop run by a Muslim and owned by a Kabui Naga at New Checkon.
