World Suicide Prevention Day observed

The observance of 21st World Suicide Prevention Day was held today under the theme 'Creating Hope through Action' at Kakching Khunou Government High School.
The observance was jointly organised by the District Mental Health Programme (DMHP) Kakching and District Health Society (DHS), Kakching.
Dr Th Rajen Singh, Chief Medical Officer/District Mission Director DHS, Kakching; Dr Kh Gopeshwor Singh, DNO, DMHP; Shyamo Singh, District Finance Manager, DHS; Chingkham Landhoni, Headmistress of Kakching Khunou Government High School and Senior teacher Bhagyachandra Singh graced as the presidium members of the programme.
Delivering the welcome and keynote address, Dr M Sushilkumar Singh, Psychiatric Social Worker of DMHP, Kakching, emphasised on the role of youths and students in suicide prevention and appealed to them to raise awareness on suicide prevention at their respective localities.
Speaking as the resource person, A Tomba Singh, Clinical Psychologist of DMHP Kakching, spoke on signs and symptoms of suicide.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Kh Gopeshwor Singh stressed on the causes of suicide.
He also highlighted that a person dies by suicide every 40 seconds and around 8, 00, 000 suicide cases are recorded globally in a year.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr Th Rajen Singh listed the probable causes of suicide including mental stress, loss of near and dear ones, losing of hope etc and emphasised on the importance of raising mass awareness on suicide prevention.
He maintained that positive thinking and healthy mental health will go a long way in preventing suicide.
As a part of the observance, on the spot quiz competition was organised for the students and prizes were distributed to the winners.
Today's programme was also attended by around 100 students, teachers and non-teaching staff of the school.
