Thai varsity team visits DMU, MTU; eyes exchange, new courses

A delegation from Thailand's Suan Dusit University (SDU) held academic interactions at Dhanamanjuri University and Manipur Technical University on Wednesday, exploring student exchange, joint research and new courses under a 2025 MoU .

DMU hosted the team at DM College of Commerce.
The programme, "Bridging Cultures, Building Futures", was organised by its International Affairs Cell.
Dr Pornchanit Kaew-Nate, Vice President for Academic and International Affairs at Suan Dusit University, led the Thai delegation.
She said the visit would help youth from both regions understand each other's education systems and culture.

DMU Vice Chancellor Prof W Chandbabu Singh spoke on historical links between Manipur and Thailand in textiles, food and performing arts.
He said the similarities offer a strong base for joint academic programmes.
"Students must acquire practical skills along with degrees to compete globally.
Exchange programmes expose them to new ideas, research methods and work cultures", said Prof Chandbabu.
DMU Registrar Dr RK Joteen Singh said the 2025 Bangkok MoU covers semester exchange, faculty mobility, collaborative research and dual-degree options in tourism, hospitality and Southeast Asian studies.
"Both universities are working on a framework to start student exchange", he said.
Students interacted with the Thai team and discussed coursework, language requirements and career prospects.
MTU session
The delegation visited MTU's Takyelpat campus on Wednesday for a programme titled "Strengthening Academic Partnerships through Cultural Understanding and Collaboration".
Prof Chandbabu, who is also MTU Vice Chancellor, announced plans to start MTech courses in AI, drone technology and semiconductors.
MTU will also introduce programmes in International Business, Tourism, Hospitality, Management and Foreign Languages.
He said MTU, now running from the Government Polytechnic campus, will shift to a permanent campus.
The university plans MoUs with institutions in Korea and Singapore.
A Thai language programme will begin at MTU between July and August, with SDU faculty visiting to teach.
MTU will explore sending engineering, management and English faculty to Thailand.
Dr Pornchanit said SDU focuses on educational innovation, Early Child Education and Human Development.
"We want students to choose subjects based on talent and career goals.
Soft skills, digital transformation and practical learning are key for the global market", she said.
MTU Registrar Ramananda Nongmeikapam, faculty and students attended the session.
