World Tourism Day celebrated

Bishnupur, September 27 2025:
District Administration Bishnupur in collaboration with SBI, DEO Bishnupur, NHPC, MTU, CRPF, DIT, MSRLM, and Forest Division Bishnupur, today celebrated World Tourism Day at the Imphal Peace Museum, Maibam Lotpaching, Nambol.
Under the theme of "Tourism and Sustainable Transformation," it emphasizes the importance of inclusive, responsible, and sustainable tourism practices.
The celebration began with a District Level Painting Competition, where nearly 100 students from across the district participated.
This was followed by folk performance by Laihui and expert talks on the scope of sustainable tourism in Bishnupur.
The District Election Office, Bishnupur also conducted a SVEEP campaign as part of the event, while AR&VR demonstrations, including an RC Yacht by MTU, were showcased throughout the program.
Deputy Commissioner Pooja Elangbam, in her address as chief guest, highlighted Bishnupur's potential to become a model district for sustainable tourism, where culture, nature, and progress coexist harmoniously.
She stressed the need for good governance, strategic planning, and a commitment to long-term sustainability goals to realize this vision.
The DC emphasized exploring the district's unexplored and underdeveloped areas with tourism potential, while promoting popular spots like Loktak Lake and the Keibul Lamjao National Park.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of the painting competition and stakeholders promoting sustainable tourism.
The event was attended by ADM Bishnupur Toijam Opendro, Security Officers from CRPF, representatives of organizing partners, and district-level officers.
Additionally, Assam Rifles commemorated World Tourism Day at Komlakhong village with a guided boat ride at Loktak Lake and interaction session involving 20 meritorious students from Phabakchao High School and 10 representatives of the Meira Paibis club.
The programme focused on promoting Loktak Lake, one of North East India's most iconic natural landmarks, known for its floating phumdis and rich biodiversity, according to an IGAR (S) press release.
Participants were sensitised on the ecological and tourism value of the lake and its surrounding islands.
