Differently abled persons in relief camps appeal to address their issues

In a bid to extend best possible help to the displaced differently abled persons taking refuge at relief camps, storage boxes and t-shirts were distributed yesterday.
The storage boxes and t-shirts were sponsored by T Peter, State Platform of Disabled People's Organisations (SPDPO) Manipur advisor and MANEDA chairman, said a press note by SPDPO Manipur president, Md Yunus Khan.
During the distribution drive, a woman who is differently abled taking refuge at Thangmeiband Tombisana High School (TAKDO) relief camp informed that many of the differently abled persons staying in the relief camps are not getting the required medicines.
They are also experiencing immense difficulties since they are not able to sustain themselves as they have been rendered helpless by the prevailing conflict situation, she said.
In view of the above, she sought immediate attention of the medical department and to provide them the essential medicines.
She also expressed dismay that the differently abled persons are not getting their due grants of various Government schemes since they do not possess required identification proofs such as Aadhaar card or disability certificates.
In the context of the 18th Lok Sabha Election 2024, the differently abled persons raised concern that 'many of the polling stations remain inaccessible by persons with disabilities (PwDs) which is against the directives of the Election Commission of India (ECI)' .
Lastly the differently abled persons urged the relevant authorities to treat them equally and to look into issues and needs, said the press note.
