Kabui Samiti asserts indigeneity

Kabui people should not engage in any activity which would be detrimental to themselves as an indigenous ethnic group of the State, said Kabui Samiti Manipur.
Addressing its 91st foundation day at Manipur Press Club today, KSM president DL Kabui said that it would be wrong for the Kabui people to endorse disintegration of Manipur or do things which can depict them (the Kabui people) in the wrong light.
The foundation day was observed under the theme "Manipurda Kabuijatigee Thoudang" which roughly translates as the role and responsibility of Kabui people in Manipur.
Kabui Dharma Sabha Manipur sang cultural songs during the opening and closing of the observance.
Saying that the Kabui dance and their culture are known throughout the world, he added Kabui is the indigenous tribe of Manipur.
He further said that Kabui people should protect its legacy and the same would play a very important role in safeguarding the integrity of the State.
Kabui Samiti Manipur was founded even before India got independence , DL Kabui added.
Saying that movement started by Jadonang Kabui who was born at Kambiron village of the present-day Nungba against the British was to win back the sovereignty of Manipur, DL Kabui added that Jadonang, unfortunately, was hung to death by the British on August 29, 1931 .
DL Kabui went on to state that Kabui ningol Rani Gaidinliu was sentenced to life imprisonment when she was only 16 in 1932 for taking active part in the movement against the British rulers.
Saying that Rani Gaidinliu was acknowledged as a freedom fighter as she was released in 1947, DL Kabui said that the Government of India has also released a postal stamp in honour of Rani Gaidinliu apart from awarding her the prestigious Padma Bhusan award.
He went on to state that the Government issued a commemorative coin of hundred rupees and five rupees on Rani Gaidinliu on her centenary birth anniversary.
Manipur pracharak of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Laishram Jatra was the chief guest of the observance.
