Imphal, March 07 2024:
The two-day strike by doctors and students of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, JNIMS, has been withdrawn on Thursday, and regular services resumed with immediate effect.
It may be mentioned that doctors and students of the department called cease work strike on March 7 and 8 following a scuffle between doctors and patient party after a woman died post-delivery at JNIMS on March 1 .
Speaking to reporters, JNIMS director Prof L Deben recounted altercation between doctors and patient party on March 1 which was brought under control as he and other officials including the medical superintendent intervened, and facilitated understanding between the parties in dispute following which body of the deceased woman was claimed by the family.
Noting that such incidents occur due to misunderstanding between doctors and patient parties, he stated that doctors went on strike as the public seldom acknowledge the medical professionals' sacrifices and concerns for patients.
However, considering the present crisis in the state, the doctors decided to call of their proposed strike, the director said, and expressed gratitude to the doctor community for retracting from their stand in public interest.
