Imphal, March 07 2024:
Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has taken suo motu cognizance of a viral video uploaded on the Facebook page of one EC Mangang, showing dire living conditions of four minors at Moirangpurel, Imphal East.
Expressing concern over the ethical considerations and norms to be followed while disseminating content featuring vulnerable children, MCPCR noted that uploader of the video appeared to be unaware of standard ethical guidelines.
However, it emphasised that there seemed to be no malicious intent behind the video's creation.
MCPCR appealed to all concerned to refrain from uploading videos or photos of destitute children, as such actions may compromise their emotional integrity, sentiment, privacy, decency, and dignity.
In the interest of the children's well-being, MCPCR has recommended that the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Imphal East submit a detailed report on the minors and outline measures prescribed by the committee to protect and rehabilitate them.
Furthermore, MCPCR has urged initiation of the inclusion process for the children in the Mission Vatsalya Scheme's Sponsorship Programme on a priority basis, considering their dire circumstances.
The District Child Protection Unit, Imphal East, has been directed to assist CWC Imphal East in implementing the recommendations.
The Commission also sought an action taken report to be submitted within March 9, detailing the progress made in response to these directives.
