SBI trying to cover up BJP scams: MPCC

Failure to disclose details of the electoral bond scheme to the Election of Commission of India by the State Bank of India (SBI) is an attempt to cover up the financial irregularities and scams of BJP, charged Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).
Addressing media persons at Congress Bha-wan, here, on Thursday, MPCC senior spokesperson Ningombam Bhupenda Meetei said a 5-judge constitution bench of the Supreme Court had decreed on February 15 that the Electoral Bond Scheme launched by the BJP government in 2017 is against the Constitution of India.
The Supreme Court had struck down the scheme and directed the SBI to disclose details of the electoral bond encashed by political parties and submit the same to the poll panel by March 6.However, two days ahead of the deadline, SBI approached the apex court seeking time till June 30 to make the data available, making it crystal clear that SBI would not be able to submit the data before the Lok Sabha polls and hinting at pressure from BJP to SBI, he maintained.
A total of Rs 12,000 crore had been received through the electoral bonds scheme since its launch in 2017 with 55 percent of amount bene fitting BJP, Bhupenda said and added that if details of the scheme is brought out, nexus between BJP and corporates will be exposed and all financial irregularities and scams of BJP laid bare before the public.
