Storm renders many homeless, IRCS provides relief items

Thirteen families who were evicted from Waithou Protected Forest Area by the State Government two years ago have been rendered homeless once more by yesterday's destructive storm.
On June 12, 2022, sixty-nine families were evicted from Waithou Sangomsang in Waithou Protected Forest Area.
Thirteen families out of sixty-nine, numbering around 100 persons including children.
had since lived in a relief camp at Waithou Khongnang Kachin Public Ground with the assistance of the local people.
But all of them have been left in the wreckage of their homes as a result of the storm.
One Moirangthem Nanao Devi recounted that the State Government issued a notice on June 11, 2022 and they were evicted the next day on June 12.Since then, the 13 families had faced insurmountable struggles.
In the midst of such hardships, the storm blew away their homes and added to their burdens and worries, said Nanao.
Stating that the evicted families had received no help from the Government or the local MLA all this time, she urged Chief Minister N Biren Singh to extend some much-needed aid to the families.
On another note, yesterday's heavy storm also swept away many houses under Thoubal Moijing Gram Panchayat, namely houses belonging to Md Raffijuddin and Md Lukman at Moijing Kangjeibung; Md Ifjan and Md Iboton at Moijing Khongkok; Md Qashim's home at Moijing Leingoijin and Manira Bibi's husband's house at Sangaiyumpham Part I Mairenkhun.
Meanwhile, in a bid to extend immediate relief to the affected households, Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Manipur State Branch and IRCS Thoubal District Branch distributed relief items including tarpaulin, health hygiene kits and mosquito nets.
Similarly, IRCS Jiribam District Branch distributed relief item packages to those affected by yesterday's fierce storm which caused mass destruction.
Furthermore, IRCS Manipur State Branch and IRCS Bishnupur District Branch distributed relief items to storm affected people of Ishok, Kha-Sanjenbam, Wahengkhuman in the district, said a press note by IRCS Manipur State Branch media coordinator.
