Kakching/Thoubal, July 19 2023: Womenfolk of Thoubal district carried out extensive protest demonstrations today at market places under the theme 'Mama Oibisinggi Apunba Khongjang' (Mothers' Protest) called by Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee for Peace.

The protest has been held to highlight the anguish of the mothers amid the prevailing mayhem in the State.

A sit-in protest was staged at Royal Development Organisation (RDO), Thounaojam in Kakching district today organised by Meira Paibis of Thounaojam.

The protest was held under the aegis of Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee for Peace.

Thoubal

As a part of the Mothers' protest, womenfolk of Meiteis and Meitei Pangals came out at the streets of surrounding areas of Yairipok Keithel and raised many slogans.

Later a human chain was formed and the protestors raised slogans like 'No separate administration in Manipur', 'Put an end to Narco terrorism', 'Implement NRC in the State', ' 'Convene a special Assembly session to discuss the crisis' etc.

A protester Memcha Keisham while speaking at the sidelines, urged the State Government to restore peace and sanity.

The Government should know the gravity of the situation which has now become a 'Civil War' and convene a special Assembly session at the earliest and take resolutions in the interest of the people.

Similarly, mothers of Yairipok Leirongthel too carried out a protest demonstration organised by Leirongthel Apunba Meira Paibi and raised many slogans.

Participating in the protest, Kangabam Inaobi demanded that the integrity of the State should not be compromised at any cost.

She appealed to the Government to act in accordance with the emotions of the people and bring a peaceful resolution to end the crisis.

If the Government fails to act in the interest of the people, the mothers will be compelled to take up intense agitation, she added.

A protest was also held at Yairipok Malom Community Hall organised by Yairipok Malom Apunba Meira Paibi.

Extending support to the Mothers' Protest, members of Thoubal Ima Keithel Mathak- Makha Apunba Joint Coordinating Committee for Peace came out at National Highway in front of Thoubal Keithel and shouted many slogans.

Meanwhile, Apunba Ima Lup Wangjing Lamding staged a rally at the surrounding areas of Wangjing Keithel and raised many slogans.

In line with the protest demonstrations, Meetei Community Joint Co-ordinating Committee (MCJCC) Waithou, Kiyam, Kiyam Siphai, Haokha and Thoubal Khunou and Women Wing jointly held a sit-in protest at Babu Bazar.

Thoubal Kshetri Leikai Apunba Meira Paibi, Samaram Apunba Meira Paibi Apunba Lup, Samaram Peace Committee and Coordination Committee Khongjom Circle also joined in today's protest.

Slogans such as 'Safeguard the integrity of Manipur', 'Restore peace and sanity', 'Abrogate SoO pact with Kuki militants', 'Withdraw Assam Rifles from Manipur', 'Convene a special Assembly session to discuss the current' echoed in the protests held at different locations of the district.

Later, womenfolk of the Coordination Committee Khongjom Circle observed two-minute silence in the honour of late Ningombam Ronibala of Singjamei Waikhom Leikai who took an active role in organising the protest and prayed for the peace of the departed soul.

It may be noted that Ronibala died in an unfortunate road accident at Wangjing Keithel.

Denouncing 'the attacks by Kuki militants upon the civilians', Leishangthem Apunba Lup (LAL), Thoubal organised a mass protest at Thoubal Leishangthem Bazar and formed human chain.
