MHRC Chairperson takes HR message to Senapati

The Chairperson of the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) Justice Utpalendu Bikas Saha interacted with Senapati DLOs and CSOs on various issues relating to human rights at DC Conference Hall, Senapati today .
Upon arriving, the MHRC Chairperson and his team were accorded a warm reception by Senapati Deputy Commissioner, Mamoni Doley, IAS.
Talking to DLOs and various CSO leaders, he stated that delay of investigation and denial of justice is a violation of human rights.
The Chairperson also stated that many cases related to arms, murder and other activities are still pending investigation for many years.
However, through the intervention of MHRC, some cases were resolved.
He also found cases of human rights violations while visiting various districts in the State including relief camps.
This included deprivation of right to life, right to livelihood that requires health facilities, water, proper shelter and other schemes.
Until peace prevails in Manipur, further developmental activities cannot move forward, he noted and appealed to the CSOs to strive for peace and harmony.
He mentioned that Manipur has a huge potential for tourism in the country but due to militants and insurgency problem, people's right to life have been taken away.
So, it is necessary to create awareness and raise this concern, he added.
He also mentioned that in any case of violation of human rights in the district, complaints must be lodged to local authority at first and then to Human Right Commission through the HR portal.
During the interaction, questions on human rights violation by AFSPA, demographic change related to international issues, differences between actual reports and ground reports of various schemes and other related human rights violations were also discussed.
The programme was attended by DLOs, various CSO leaders, principals of schools and colleges, teachers, Senapati Karong Area Town Committee representatives, village chiefs, chairmen and secretaries, representatives of Naga People's Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR), NGOs and tribal leaders.
