Bpr/Tbl, October 24 2023: Extending philanthropic acts to the displaced people impacted severely by the communal conflict that erupted on May 3, many continue to donate essential and relief materials to various shelter camps.

The members of St Joseph's School 1997-98 Class X Batch and Manipur Association Canada in a collaborative initiative, distributed essential items to different relief camps across Moirang Assembly Constituency today.

Hundreds of displaced people from Churachandpur and other places are taking refuge in these relief camps ever since the outbreak of the communal conflict in the State.

The team donated relief materials including edible items, blankets, pressure cooker, gas burners, stationery items, raw materials for making handicraft products etc to relief camps at Sandhong Awang Leikai, Terakhongshangbiand Okshongbung Upper Primary School in Moirang Assembly Constituency.

The team also donated relief materials at a relief camp at Panjao Pallum in Kakching district.

Apart from donating relief materials, monetary assistance was provided to three victims of the unfortunate Khamenlok incident.

Speaking in connection with the distribution drive, St Joseph's School 1997-98 Class X Batch secretary S Ajit Meitei said that the relief materials are being donated with the primary objective of promoting the welfare of the displaced people.

He further assured that similar distribution drives will be conducted at other relief camps in future.

Continuing its philanthropic activities amid the prevailing unrest in the State, Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Manipur State Branch and Bishnupur district branch in a collaborative effort, donated relief materials today to the relief camp at SAI complex, Utlou managed by the Peace Committee Nambol AC.

The relief materials which were donated today include kitchen sets, mosquito nets, blankets etc, said a press note by IRCS Manipur State Branch chairman Narendra Ningomba, vice chairman Dr Laishram Manglem, secretary Athokpam Nabachandra, treasurer Premjit Naoroibam, IRCS Bishnupur district branch secretary Dr Huidrom Romen, publicity and public relations secretary Huidrom Ronibala and volunteers of IRCS were present in today's donation drive.

Speaking at the occasion, Narendra Ningomba assured that IRCS will continue to extend best possible help to the people affected by the communal crisis in the State.

He maintained that the relief packages are being distributed by the Indian Red Cross Society to help the displaced people when they go back and resettle at their respective native lands.

He also highlighted the sincere and dedicated efforts of the volunteers and well-wishers who have been striving earnestly for the welfare of the displaced people.

The team of IRCS also distributed relief material packages to relief camps at Wangoo Sellungkhong, Wangoo Ahallup Higher Secondary School, Kumbi community hall, Sangeet Lampak, Ithai Khunou Government High School, Khoyol Keithel, Ngangkhalawai Primary School, Thanga AC Ithing, Thanga Chingkha, Oinam Government High School and Leimaram SC Girls Hostel and other places in Bishnupur district.

Blankets were donated to two relief centres located in the remote areas of Sugnu Assembly Constituency today by a team of PhytoLife Company led by its managing director Soibam Sharat Singh.

The team took up the initiative of donating blankets in view of the inconveniences faced by the displaced people taking refuge in the relief camps at this onset of winter.

The two relief centres where the donation drive was carried out are located at Chairel Makha Leikai and Nungoo sheltering around 240 displaced people from Serou, Napat, Tangjeng Ahallup and Chandolpokpi.

These two relief centres are facing shortage of essential items since there is not much flow of relief materials owing to its remote location unlike the other relief camps.

Speaking in connection with the donation drive, Soibam Sharat Singh said that the Phytolife Company took up this initiative with an aim to help in alleviating the hardships faced by the displaced people who have been adversely affected by the communal conflict.

Considering the immense pain and suffering inflicted upon the civilians, he urged the Central and State Government to expedite measures to restore peace and normalcy in the strife torn State and resettlement of the displaced people at their respective native lands.

He further appealed for the lifting of internet ban which has been in place for more than 5 months.

The displaced people also sought the attention of the Government to let them resettle in their native places at the earliest.
