Presiding over a review meeting yesterday in connection with the steps being taken up to ensure use of photo electoral roll in the 15th Lok Sabha election scheduled to be held next year, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has given instruction to speed up the process.
The preparation of the photo electoral roll is being taken up after the Election Commission of India finalised that use of the photo electoral roll would be made mandatory starting from the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
Chief Electoral Officer Sambhu, Deputy Commissioners of the respective districts and Electoral Registration Officers were among those who attended the review meeting held at the office chamber of Chief Minister yesterday.
Taking serious note of the instruction of the Election Commission of India, the meeting has given necessary instruction to all concerned to speed up the ongoing exercise of preparing the photo electoral roll so that the same could be completed at the soonest possible.
The Chief Minister also lauded the task accomplished so far in this regard.
It is said that so far 56.23 percent of the exercise has been completed in the valley while 55.93 percent in the hills.
Out of the 10,22,192 electors in the four valley districts of the State, photographs of 7,08,252 have been taken and out of the total electors of 6,82,896 in the five hill districts, photographs of 3,82,301 have been snapped so far.
