Imphal, April 17 2010: The All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) today observed 30th 'Realisation Day' to commemorate the event on April 16 and 17, 1980 in which two students, Lukhoi and Premananda, were killed in police action and injured to several others during the foreigner issue.

The observance was marked by offering of floral wreaths at the memorial site at Pishum Chingaching.

Students from different institutions from Imphal, Bishnupur, Thoubal and other parts of the state converged at the memorial site and offered floral tributes to the photographs of the two departed students.

The observance function was graced by former president of AMSU, L Sharatchandra, presided over by present president, Erengbam Jamesbond Mangang.

Former presidents of the union L Gojendro and president of United Committee Manipur (UCM), Yumnamcha Dilipkumar attended as guests of honour.

Talkers at the observance function realized the gathering about threats posing to the indigenous people of the region by the unchecked increasing influx of non-locals to the socioeconomic, culture and socio-political system of the state.

Like Tripuris become minority in their own state Tripura, the unchecked influx of people from country's mainland is dominating other states of the region particularly, Manipur, Assam and Sikkim and giving a threat the socio-economic, culture, tradition and political system of indigenous people of the region, they lamented.

The more dangerous point in the "assimilating and dominating" is the process of the smaller racial groups by the larger groups entering the region from the mainland India by marrying with the local women and settling by owning land.

"As the trend of larger racial groups dominating and assimilating the smaller groups in the world is not a new thing and one that is sure to extinguish the indigenous people of Manipur from this soil," they said.

They went on talk about the occupation of lands in both hills and valley of the state without any restriction.

On the northern side, for instance, they have developed their villages on both sides of the NH-39 stretch from Mao to Chingmeirong Imphal.

They have entirely dominated the villages like Kangpokpi, Sapermaina, Kanglatombi, Motbung on the stretch of the highway, he lamented recalling that 30% of the total population of Manipur was non-locals according to 2001 census report.

The population figure had already bypassed the total heads of tribal population of the state and the same is expected to increase remarkably after the 2011 census.

Many other leaders of the student bodies and intellectual talked on the need of finding a policy that will effectively deal with the checking of illegal intrusion of outsiders in the state in the public meeting held at Hao Ground, Pishum near the memorial site in this connection with observance of day.

They also warned of increasingly alarming situation arising out of the incessant flow of outsiders into Manipur.

At the concluding part of the meeting AMSU re-affirmed its commitment to fight against influx of illegal immigration in the state.
