Imphal, April 17 2010:
All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) today observed 30th Mikap Thokpa Numit in remembrance of two student activists who were killed in police firing during the agitation over foreigner issue.
Apart from a large number of people paying floral tributes at the memorial of the 'martyred' students at Pishum Chingamacha, a public meeting was also held at the nearby ground.
Prior to that AMSU president Jamesbond Mangang unfurled flag of the student body at the memorial complex.
The meeting was attended by former AMSU president L Saratchandra as chief guest, incumbent president Irengbam Jamesbond as functional president and another former president L Gojendro as guest of honour.

Delivering the key note address, general secretary of AMSU Alamgir expressed serious concern over influx of outsiders whose number has been increasing steadily and said that a time may come soon when the native people would be reduced to minority.
He said after Manipur became a part of India on October 15, 1949 and the subsequent lifting of the Inner Line Permit system by the then Chief Commissioner on November 18, 1950, there has been no let up to the influx of outsiders.
"Today there is no place in Manipur where these outsiders have not reached, thus giving serious impact on the administration of the State and socio-economic as well as cultural life of the indigenous people.
So, in order to protect the rights and identity of the indigenous people, AMSU has been launching the campaign for Protection of Indigenous People of Manipur since April 17, 2007" .
As part of the observance, a blood donation camp and a painting competition for the students were also organised at Pishum ground.
