Thadou cultural fest ends on a grand note

The 1st Thadou Cultural Festival concluded with the crowning the first Mister and Miss Thadou at Ngahmun village in Sadar Hills on Friday.
The festival culminated with various cultural display attended by YT James Thadou, president, Thadou Inpi-Ghqs as chief guest, IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip as guest of honour and MLA Nemcha Kipgen as president respectively.
Apart from various tribe leaders, dignitaries, social workers, intellectuals, bureaucrats, chiefs, civil society organizations and church leaders, a stunning crowd of around 6000 attended the closing event.
Colourful cultural exhibitions marked the closing day apart from motivational messages by various speakers, dignitaries and Thadou leaders.
While elaborating on the origin of the Thadous, Dr Ngamkhohao Haokip, said the Khul (cave) known as 'Senlung', located within the territory of Kholmunlen village in South-Eastern part of Tengnoupal district in Manipur is the origin of the Thadous.

YT James Thadou, president, Thadou Inpi-Ghqs emphasized the importance of preserving the Thadou culture and identity.
He urged the Thadou community to be proud of their identity.
YT James also released a book titled 'Jonlhing and Nanglhun' written by Tongpu Kipgen, president, All Tribal Chiefs' Association, Manipur and SAHILCA.
IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip and MLA Nemcha Kipgen, during their speech urged the Thadou community to take advantage of the festival in building peace and unity among the Thadous and developing the bond of love with other tribes within the Kuki fold.
Thadou Cultural Festival 'Hun' will be organized every year henceforth, Lamkhomang Kipgen, secretary, Thadou Cultural Festival stated.
The place of celebration will, however not be confined to one particular place.
The response of the people during the festival was commendable, he stated, urging the State Government to recognize and officially announced April 7 as Thadou Cultural Festival 'Hun' Day as recommended in the memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister on the inaugural day.
Live bands including Jingkar Bongnoi, Thangmawi, Jimmy Lamboi, Marinda, Michael Luncha and others prominent artistes performed on the last day of the festival.
Thangkhanlal Haokip of Lhungtin village, Saikul, presently residing at Tuibuong in Churachandpur and Esther Nengpilhing of Churachandpur were crowned Mr and Miss Thadou, 2016.The duo received a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a citation each.
Paul Haokip of New Lambulane, Imphal and Alice Kipgen of Motbung, Sadar Hills were adjusted the first runner up and received a cash prize of Rs 15,000 and a citation each while Kamlenthang Kipgen of Haipi, Sadar Hills and Tingminkim Chongloi of Taphou Kuki, Sadar Hills were the second runners up and received a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a citation each.
