State level seminar on Manipuri film begins

The 3-day State level seminar on the topic, "Manipuri Mami Kumheigi Khongchatta Ngasi amadi Hayeng", began today at Manipur State Film Development Society auditorium at Palace gate.
The seminar is being organised by the Manipur State Film Development Society and Film Forum Manipur.
Attending as the chief guest, Audio Visual Research Centre, Manipur University, former HOD Professor Arambam Lokendra said Manipuri films produced in earlier days always had a strong message for the viewers.
With the dramatic cultural change that is experienced world wide, the film industry also have undergone visible change, he said.
Film Forum Manipur chairman L Surjakanta who graced the opening ceremony of the seminar as functional president, said the seminar was necessitated by the changing practice in Manipuri cinema.
Asserting that seminars of such kind are seldom participated by people, Surjakanta said such seminars could guide Manipuri cinema to a better direction.
Organising Committee convenor Kumarjit said it is the short films and documentaries of the State that are maintaining the status of Manipuri Film Industry.
Although Manipur produces a large number of feature films annually, most of the them lack the quality and execution that are needed to be recognised on National and international levels.
It has been ages since Manipur produced films like Imagi Ningthem that was globally acclaimed, he added.
Film is a powerful medium that could change the society.
Therefore, such medium should not be taken lightly.
The seminar focus on the need for dedication on the field, he added.
Professor Ch Tombi moderated both the morning and the evening session of the seminar.
L Surjakanta and Ningthouja Lancha read out their papers in the morning session of the seminar while Dr Makhonmani Mongsaba and Narendra Ningombam presented their papers in the evening session of the seminar.
Other noted personalities like Rajesh Salam, Haobam Pabankumar, Meghachandra Kongbam, Ngangom Tejkumar and Dr Dhanabir Laisharm will also present their papers in the three-day long seminar.
