AMEDUC demands regularisation

Imphal, August 27 2011: All Manipur Engineering Department Unions' Council (AMEDUC) has announced its decision of taking recourse to various intense agitations including fast unto death if the Government fails to give a positive response to the demand for regularisation of the adhoc staff and allowing them to enjoy benefits under various schemes just like regular staff.

Speaking in a reception function today hosted in honour of the three members of AMEDUC, who were arrested by the police yesterday for shouting slogans and throwing leaflets from the visitors' gallery of the Assembly, AMEDUC president Y Rana Pratap, asserted that the three members namely Heikrujam Ibomcha Singh Moirangthem Rajen Meitei and Kh Kalamu Singh, all residents of Heirok, were only pressing for their rights who have been denied by the Government for a long time.

In the leaflets, which the three members threw inside the Assembly yesterday, it was stated, 'Kill us, if there is no MLA or Minister to think for the welfare of the employees' .

Rana Pratap said that AMEDUC felt sorry for the disruption of the Assembly proceeding yesterday, but the aggrieved employees have been compelled from prolonged negligence of their rights by the Government.

He also sought the forgiveness of the Speaker and other members of the House and appealed to them to take up the demand for employees for discussion in the House.

Many Work Charged, Muster Roll and Casual employees have been serving in the five engineering departments, namely PWD, PHED, IFCD, Electricity Department and Minor Irrigation for over 25 years, and in some cases nearly 30 years.

These employees have been doing the same work like the regular employees.

The only difference is that there is lack of job security and deprivation of various benefits to the adhoc employees, Rana lamented.

Rana Pratap recalled that highlighting the demand of the employees, a memorandum had already been submitted to Rajya Sabha MP Dr G Sanjeeva Reddy by a 10-member delegation of the Council on July 15 last at New Delhi.

The copy of the memorandum have also been forwarded to MP Dr Rana Chandra Khuntia.
