Public meeting convened to address COVID-19 issue and drug menace

Continuing its relentless drive to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) in association with Nungthel Ima Women's Development Association, Top Siphai and Social Welfare Club (SWC) jointly organised a public meeting today to discuss the issue of COVID-19 and drug menace in the State.
The meeting was held at Ima Nungthel Lairembi Community Hall at Top Siphai Mayai Leikai adhering to Covid SOPs.
Today's meeting was graced by Tekcham Subadani, secretary of Nungthel Ima Women's Development Association, Tekcham Tekchamba, secretary of Social Welfare Club, Top Siphai and Hijam Priyokumar, president of CADA as the presidium members.
And Geetchandra Mangang, secretary general of CADA and Mayengbam Budhi, secretary organisation, CADA spoke as the resource persons, said a press release by CADA.

Speaking on the occasion, Longjam Atomba, Executive member of SWC said that the mothers play an important to ensure that their wards do not fall prey to drug abuse.
Parents should refrain from being lenient towards the mistakes of the children as it encourages them to commit the same again therefore one should be strict whenever it is necessary, he added.
Tekcham Tekchamba enumerated the various harmful affects of alcohol and drugs in today's society therefore it is high time that affects of alcohol and other substance abuse should be incorporated in the school syllabus to educate the young students.
He also emphasized that the local clubs and meira paibis should work earnestly to overcome the drug menace issues in the State and lauded CADA for their relentless efforts towards the cause.
President of CADA, Hijam Priyokumar expressed concern over the high Covid positivity rate in the State when the entire world is recovering from the pandemic.
Citing that non adherence to Covid SOPs and protocol are the major cause of the current Covid situation, he urged all to strictly follow the SOPs and protocol laid by the competent authorities to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic effectively.
Further he called for a collective stand against the State Government's step to legalise local liquor to protect the people from the harmful outcome of such a step.
