Social, Educational Cultural, Economic Development Society (SECEDS), an NGO endeavouring to bring social change in Tamei subdivision of Tamenglong district, yesterday organised the biggest ever programme to felicitate meritorious students of HSLC exam 2008 at Tamei HQ where scholars and other dignitaries from Imphal participated.
Speaking as the chief guest of the function, MLA Awangbow while congratulating the successful candidates, said that responding to the challenge posed by the then BSEM chairman S Nabachandra back in the nineties to keep the Tamei examination centre a free and fair one, the people are putting their efforts together to make the Tamei private centre free from any unfair practice.
As such the centre has been found 'clean' and there has been no report of unfair means in all the examinations since 1996.Prior to the allocation of an exam centre at Tamei HQ over a decade ago, Nabachandra had said that if the concern authority at Tamei could manage the centre as such that no unfair means was practised, the BSEM would grant an examination centre.
Attending the function as guest of honour at the invitation of the organising committee, former chairman of BSEM S Nabachandra observed that Tamei was once a sleeping village, but now it has waken up and joins the rest of the State in competition in the field of education and developmental activities.
Nabachandra exhorted the students' community to do something better in the field of education.
He said the Government has been blamed for all reasons while appealing the students to do their job of studying and other academic related activities.
The former BSEM chairman also reminded the students of Tamei area that only through education the State could achieve all round development.
RK Ranjan, Director ASC of Manipur University who was also present at the occasion said that earlier the people have the notion that only industrial revolution can bring development, but that was wrong and added that it is only education that can bring in development and peace in the State as well as the country.
N Heramani, the officer in charge of Tamei private centre, who also spoke during the function, said that Tamei private centre has become one of the most 'clean' examination centres of the state.
He said that even it has earned pats from the flying squad of the BSEM who had inspected the centre during the last examination.
Dr N Sarat Singh, selection grade lecturer said that the students of Tamei area should preserve the human resource while urging public of the area to work for the interest of the students' community.
Education Director of Liangmai Naga Baptist Association (LNBA) Dr Hunibou dwelt at length on the educational atmosphere of Tamei subdivision.
He opined that hardworking and fearing God is the best policy to success in life.
LNBA secretary Rev Mairilungbou exhorted the students to fear God and be disciplined throughout if one has to reap a meaningful life.
SECEDS Chairman Dara Newmei said that his NGO is mainly to uplift the standard of living in the area while giving impetus to the growth and improvement of educational arena which are the keys for social change.
Tamei Village authority Chairman Poujeng, Liangmai Naga Council (LNC) chief Ch Dithinbou, Madenbou and hordes of others participated the mega programme.
Awardees include 4th Position holder Ronald Kungsaomakbou Abonmai s/o Sangdinbou of Tamei and local meritorious students Maijinlakbou s/o Maliakbou, Kaliwangbou s/o Daniel, Poudiwibou s/o Dr Hunibou and Liangdikhonliu d/o Ch.Dithinbou.
