One found dead inside DMU campus

Imphal, February 17 2024: A 46-year old man has been found dead with bullet injury inside DM University campus by the side of a road leading to Science Block from Indoor Stadium, some distance away from GP Women's College hostel this afternoon.

The dead body was found lying on a roadside near a tree by some youth who went to play in the nearby ground and they informed the police, sources said.

When police reached the spot, the man was seen lying just a few feet away from his own four-wheeler vehicle with bullet injury in his mouth and he was holding his licensed gun (.32 pistol) .

The area was cordoned off by the police team and a forensic science team was informed.

As soon as they reached the spot, the forensic expert team carried out inquest of the dead body and surrounding area before the dead body was picked up and deposited at RIMS morgue for post mortem.

The deceased has been identified as Takhellambam Rakesh (46) s/o (late) Ibochou of Moirangkhom.

Rakesh is the owner of Indra Optical store located at Nagamapal RIMS road.

Family members expressed suspicion that Rakesh might have been shot dead by unknown persons to take away money to the tune of some lakhs which the deceased was carrying from his shop today afternoon.

A case has been registered at Imphal police station in connection with the incident.
