Imphal, January 10 2024:
The two-day observance of the Seven Years' Devastation organised by Tharoijam Youth Progressive Club (TYPC) at Tharoijam Maning Leikai community hall, culminated on Wednesday with the adoption of various resolutions including formation of a Meetei Vanguard.
The last day of the observance was attended by Kangleipakki Meira editor Wangkhemcha Shamjai as chief guest and social worker Kangjam Ador Singh as president, while social worker Thokchom Jugin Singh, PHASD Club president Phamdom Bimol Singh, social worker Mayengbam Damu Meitei, Tharoijam Maning Meira Paibi secretary Heikrujam Sana and TMLMP secretary Achom Ibecha Devi were present as guests of honour.
The adopted resolutions included for the government to facilitate Meetei villagers to return to their homes and strengthening the Meetei community so as to protect it from all threats; keeping a close eye on the relief camps and taking swift action against any misappropriation of benefits meant for the camp residents, in addition to increasing the benefits; concerted efforts to improve the overall livelihoods of Meetei society; formation of a Meetei Vanguard, etc.
In his speech, Shamjai remarked that the Seven Years' Devastation occurred due to dispute among the royal princes for the throne of Manipur and absence of anyone to guard the kingdom.
Thus, we need to make collective efforts to prevent recurrence of a similar unwanted event in the future, he asserted.
