COCOMI sets deadline for re-settlement of displaced people

As part of its initiative for resettlement and rehabilitation of displaced people in their respective homes, Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) visited Dolaithabi to take stock of the situation in the area and has urged the authority concerned to make arrangement for the displaced people of Dolaithabi, Yengkhuman, Mairenpat and Leitanpokpi to return to their respective homes by November 15.On Wednesday, representatives of COCOMI along with officials of district administration of Imphal East and SP Imphal East conducted a meeting at the Imphal East DC conference hall and discussed feasibility of displaced people of Imphal East returning to their respective homes.
After the meeting, representatives of COCOMI along with a team of media persons visited Dolaithabi and held a meeting there with the locals and security personnel.
After the meeting, COCOMI coordinator Jitendra Ningomba informed media persons after the eruption of ethnic violence on May 3 last, displaced people from Dolaithabi, Yengkhuman, Leitanpokpi and Mairenpat have not been able to return to their respective homes.
Since the situation in the state has improved to some extent, COCOMI and the public including the people of the four villages are of the opinion that the displaced people should be now made to re-settle in their respective homes.
Therefore, the government should take up all necessary measures to ensure re-settlement of the displaced people in the said four villages of Imphal East by November 15 next.
He further informed that the public have full faith in the government that it would fulfil their demands.
However, in case the government fails to do the needful, then COCOMI would join hands with the public for launching agitations.
It is the right of the villagers to return to their own villages and it is the duty to the government to do the needful, Jitendra added.
One Nongmeikapam Bimota of Pukhao Khabam told media persons that though the displaced people are staying in the relief camps, all are longing for the day when they will be able to enter their homes.
