Kuki-Zo bodies air woes to GOC Ram Chander

Kuki-Zo bodies in Kangpokpi district voiced grievances of Kuki- Zo communities to the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Command Lieutenant General Ram Chander Tiwari during latter's maiden visit to Kangpokpi district on Wednesday.
Lt Gen Tiwari, who assumed the position of GOC Eastern Command on January 1, visited the strife-torn Kangpokpi district and met various Kuki-Zo bodies at 22 Assam Rifles post at Kangpokpi.
The Army commander was accompanied by Spear Corps GOC Lt Gen HS Sahi, IGAR (E) Maj Gen Vinod Kumar Nambiar, and 22 Sector Assam Rifles commander Brigadier Vikram Saini.
Leaders of various Kuki-Zo bodies including Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, Kuki Women Union Sadar Hills, Kuki Women Organization for Human Rights were accompanied by Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen and Saikul MLA Kimneo Haokip Hangshing in the meeting with GOC Eastern Command.
Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills submitted a memorandum to the GOC urging him for a comprehensive review of Army deployment in the buffer zones, establishment of a rear headquarters on the granted 316 acres of land at Hengbung village in Kangpokpi district, and extension of stationing of the 22 Assam Rifles.
It also urged GOC Eastern Command to set up a permanent army post at Saichang village, Bongbal Khullen village, Kamuching village and Salampatong village in Phailengmol area under Island sub division in Kangpokpi district.
