SGFI confers award to Shantikumar

In recognition of the contribution and effort made by Ch Shantikumar Singh towards promoting blooming school players of the nation, School Games Federation of India (SGFI) has honoured retired Deputy Director of state Sports department with the prestigious Life Time Achievement Award 2012-13 .
"SGFI has touched the height and proved itself a milestone in the field of national and international school sports.
For this achievement SGFI is indebted to Ch Shantikumar for his sincere devotion to promote the federation with his sub-line contribution for the welfare of the blooming school players of the nation," the citation of the life time achievement award reads.
Sharing the happy moment, Shantikumar told Hueiyen Lanmpao that since he joined SGFI in the year 2006 as joint secretary, Manipur managed to remain among the top 4 national school games ranking.
Out of 86 events including 30 Olympic disciplines of national school games, Manipur competed in around 30 games.
Some of the disciplines are not played in the state.
Maharashtra, Punjab and New Delhi are the main opponents for Manipur in the national games, Shantikumar informed.
After his Manipur team won the Santosh Trophy in 2000, Shantikumar, who joined state sport department as football coach in 1982, was promoted to the post of DYASO and subsequently rose to the level Deputy Director.
