Imphal, July 23 2013:
State Public Works Department (PWD) seems to shy away from its responsibilities of mending roads and bridges unless public holds dharna or digs out roads in protest.
The road passing through a mini-bridge (culvert) on the western side of Tera Bazar along National Highway No.37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road) has not been blacktopped yet, even though the construction of this bridge was completed three months back.
This non-blacktopped road is a matter of disappointment to the commuters today.
It may be mentioned that local organizations along Imphal-Jiribam Road had dug out the highway in protest against non-repairing of road from Wahengbam Leikai to Oriental College Gate.
Luckily, the protest was subsided following mending of National Highway No.37 ahead of the BCIM Car Rally.
However, PWD is still yet to mend the deplorable stretch along Sayang Road near NH-37 that connects with some major places in Imphal area.
Locals in the area are quite disgruntled at the working style of State PWD.
On the other hand, the locals dug out road at Tera Lukram Leirak leading to FCS Godown yesterday protesting against the apathy of PWD officials.
Earlier, a young boy was blinded and another man got killed by stones bounced from the tyres of heavy vehicles along this road.
Many people have also questioned whether Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar is not bothered about public outcry against deplorable roads and bridges of the State.
