Bob Khathing Sports Week begins at Ukhrul

Ukhrul, February 20 2018:
The 6th Edition of Major Bob Kathing Sports Week was declared open by DIG 10 Sector Somsai, Ukhrul Mohit Seth today at TNL ground, Wino bazar, Ukhrul.
The district level sports week is being organized to commemorate the 106th birth anniversary of the legendary Hero Major Bob Khathing for his selfless services to the nation.
Before the sports week was declared open, doves were symbolically released to mark peace and harmony in the district through sporting events.

During the inauguration programme, Mohit Seth narrated the life story of the State's legendary hero, Late Major Bob Khathing.
He said Bob Khathing raised from a humble family background but his contribution to the nation is marvellous and it must be acknowledged by all.
The DIG as a marked respect and honour and also to keep his selfless services alive, a bio-pic documentary film made on Late Major Bob Khathing was also released today.
He urged the people of the district to adopt Bob Khathing's legacy and passed them in the generations to come.
TNL president, Weapon Zimik lauded the 27 AR for hosting the sporting events.
President, UDSA, Shangreiso Shimray said on the occasion that sports will enhance the feeling of oneness and integrity among all community.
Veteran footballer from the district, Somatai Shaiza lighted the ceremonial lamp of the sports week at TNL ground.
165 TA FC clashed with the defending champions Khuirei FC in the opening match which ended goalless in regulation time.
The winners were decided via a penalty shoot-out in which TA FC edged out Khuirei FC 5-4 to advance into next round.
Major Bob Khathing Sports week is jointly organized by 27 AR and Ukhrul District Sports Association (UDSA).
17 football clubs and 10 women volley ball teams will be vying for top honours in this sporting event.
The opening ceremony was also attended by Commandant 27 AR, Rajesh Dogra, Commandant 17 AR, Anurag Sharma, TSL president, Grace Shatsang and well wishers from the district.
