State's Tokyo Olympians guaranteed Rs 25L

Ahead of the Summer Olympics to be held at Tokyo, Japan, the state government on Monday announced cash rewards for prospective medal winners at the Olympics from Manipur.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced that the government would hand over cash award of Rs 1.2 crore to gold medallists, Rs 1 crore for silver medallists and Rs 75 lakh for bronze medal winners from the state at the Tokyo Olympics.
The chief minister made this announcement during the launching of Selfie Point to cheer the Indian Olympic contingent in a function held at CM's Secretariat on Monday.
Biren said that the government would also provide a cash incentive of Rs 25 lakh to all the five participants from the state, representing the country in Tokyo Olympics.
While placing his confidence on the five athletes to bring laurels for the state as well as the country, CM gave his best wishes to all the five athletes on behalf of the people of Manipur.
CM Biren also posted on his Twitter account: "Launched the Tokyo Olympic #Cheer4India campaign in Manipur too as a way of cheering the athletes representing India" .
Appreciating the initiative, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted "Manipur is a powerhouse of sporting talent.
Good effort by the Manipur government to #Cheer4India and to inspire youngsters to pursue sports" .
The Tokyo Olympics 2020 is scheduled to start in Japan on July 23 and continue till August 8 .
Biren further said the state will initiate activities like virtual felicitation of athletes' families, Olympic quiz, Road to Tokyo 2020 fan engagement drives and Olympic Symposium.
The state will also set up selfie points where people can click pictures and show their support.
All these activities will be conducted keeping the COVID-19 pandemic situation in mind and with the utmost care, he added.
The five sportspersons from Manipur are six-time world champion pugilist MC Mary Kom for women's boxing (51kg), former Indian women national team captain Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam in women's hockey, Shanglakpam Nilakanta Sharma in men's hockey, weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu (women's 49kg) and judoka Likmabam Shushila Devi (women's 48kg).Sports minister Letpao Haokip, CAF&PD minister Th Satyabrata, PDA chairman T Robindro Singh, MP (Rajya Sabha) Leishemba Sanajaoba, MLA of Langthabal AC Karam Shyam and officials of YAS department were also present during the function.
