Imphal, June 28 2021:
A team of Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) inspected Manipur Central Jail located at Old Lambulane here on Monday.
Informing this in a release, MSWC chairperson Prof Dr Binota Meinam said that a team of the commission under section 10 (G) of Manipur State Commission for Women Act 2006 inspected the jail which is exclusively for women.
The inspection team was guided by DGP (prisons) P Doungel and SP (Prisons) T Kunjakishore, she added.
During the inspection, it was found that the number of inmates in the prison is lesser when compared to the previous years.
There are 21 inmates in the jail, out of which three are convicted and 18 are under trials.
The barracks were found neat and clean and presented a relaxed atmosphere with adequate open space.
However, the present kitchen needs to be renovated, Binota assessed.
She also handed over sanitary pads, hand sanitizers, N95 masks and snacks to DGP (Prisons) for further distribution among the female inmates.
