Yangkhohao's last rites to be performed at Ukhrul

Imphal, August 13 2013:
The last rites of the legendary pre-independence footballer of the state Yangkhohao Shingnaisui, popularly known as Daram for his (defender) performance, would be conducted at his native village in Ukhrul district on Wednesday at 1 PM.
The lifeless body of Yangkhohao was escorted to his native place by a host of people from Dimapur, Nagaland, where he settled after retirement from the service of Civil Supply Department, Government of Nagaland.
Born on 14th November, 1924, Yangkhohao was a good footballer and also an athlete since childhood.
He was recruited by Nagaland government in the Civil Supply Department.
After his retirement from the post of Additional Director, he settled in Dimapur along with family members.
Apart from participating in various district level football tournaments, Yangkhohao was a team member of Manipur in the pre-independence era.
He was also credited for Tangkhul Sporting Association's win in the CC Meet, 1951 .
His performance in a match played against Yorkshire football team of England in the year 1946 in Shillong was being widely appreciated especially among the then British officers.
While expressing his grief over the demise of the player, Aleng Shirey, contemporary soccer player of Yangkhohao informed that the late footballer would be remembered as one of the most valuable soccers of Manipur.
Meanwhile, All Manipur Football Association observed a 2-minute silence for peaceful repose of the departed soul in its heavenly abode.
The association also recalled the service rendered by Daram towards the development of the game in the state.
Yangkhohao was also the Footballer of the State in 1950 and founder member of Ukhrul District Football Association.
