Jiribam, August 13 2013:
The BRO's assurance to complete NH-37 repair work within a time-frame (Aug 18) after closing the highway since many days back has drawn flak from the Transporters' and Drivers' Council (TDC) .
Speaking to media persons today at Jiribam, TDC President H Ranjit said that the closure of the highway on the pretext of taking up repair work is nothing but a harassment to the transporters.
It is impossible for the BRO to complete the repair works within August 18, the TDC president said while pointing out that there is not a single material for the construction of NH-37 as claimed by the BRO.
No material for the repair works has been shipped in yet from other places like Sekmai or Serou as claimed by the BRO, Ranjit said while quoting the findings of the Council during a spot survey along the highway.
The council further accused the BRO of deceiving the public by making false assurance.
Urging the concerned authority not to trust the assurance of BRO, the TDC further urged the concerned authority to make necessary arrangement to facilitate transportation along the highway.
The missing runners of Makru Bridge are replaced with only an inch thick plank, the TDC said while strongly denouncing the alleged deceitful act of the BRO.
As blockade of NHs is illegal, the BRO deserves same penalty to those groups or organisations who are engaged in highways blockade activity, he added.
