Imphal, August 13 2013:
Clarifying to media reports of a classroom of Ch Iboyaima H/S located at Singjamei Bheigyabati Leikai being converted into a henhouse, the teachers of the school claimed that the chickens have been reared by the caretaker without informing the school authorities.
Talking to media persons today, the teachers said that the school has been running without any chowkidar or peon for the last 10 years.
The authorities concerned have been requested repeatedly to post a chowkidar in the school, but nothing has been done so far.
So, for the safety of school's properties, a local man namely W Doren has been engaged as a caretaker of the school.
While admitting to sheltering chickens in one of the classrooms, caretaker Doren said that his henhouse was in a poor condition and he had to shift the chickens to some other place in view of heavy rainfall.
The chickens were shifted to one of the rooms, which have not been used for quite a long time since the school was downgraded to a high school from the higher secondary level.
The chickens were meant to be sheltered in the room only for some days until his henhouse is fixed.
He lamented that he had made a blunder by sheltering the chickens in that room without informing the school authorities.
He had no intention to tarnish the reputation of the school and the teachers, Doren maintained.
