20th Hill Districts Badminton Championship gets underway

XXth Hill Districts Badminton Championship, 2022 was graced by L Dikho, MLA, Mao AC as chief guest and Brig PS Arora, Commander, 22 Sector, Assam Rifles as special guest in the presence of I K Muivah, IPS, IGP (Admin) and other CSO leaders.
The event is being organised by the Senapati District Badminton Association (SDBA) at Multi-Purpose Indoor Hall, Rikhumai Taphou, Senapati.
Mahesh Chaudhari, IAS, DC, Senapati in his welcome note stated that Senapati district is known in the field of badminton in the hills districts of Manipur for so many years.
The DC also welcomed all participants from other hill districts and wished the players to feel at home.

MLA LM Khaute who is also president, Hill Districts Badminton Association, Manipur stated that the association has progressed since its formation in 2002 and has been holding annual championships across hill districts in the State.
The HDBAM president on behalf of the association condoled the untimely demise of (Late) Louno Andrew who was the former president of SDBA.
The sole objective and purpose of the championship is to promote sports especially badminton amongst the sporting fraternity of the hill people, he said.
The HDBAM president also stated that participants from different hill districts come to know each other's culture and way of life leading to a healthy lifestyle through such events.
Over the years, the association has reportedly achieved tremendous success by producing 3 very prominent international badminton players who had brought laurels to the State and district including Andrew Lotzem, Kyoveio Vemai and Kalo Truman.
The President also extended gratitude to Manipur Badminton Association for their support in organising such championships successfully.
Speaking as the chief guest, MLA L Dikho lauded the HDBAM for the achievements they made so far and expressed happiness to be a part of the opening programme of the championship.
MLA Dikho also noted the improvement of Senapati district over the years in the sports discipline.
The MLA also took note of the significance of games and sports and employment opportunities for sportspersons.
More than 400 players of various age groups and categories from Ukhrul, Chandel, Kangpokpi, Noney, Senapati, Tamenglong, Churachandpur, Kamjong and Tengnoupal are reportedly participating at the championship which will continue till October 27 .
