Imphal, February 14, 2013:
With fine contributions from its frontline batsmen, THAU notched up a total of 173 runs for 9 in the allotted 35 overs to register a commendable win over WCA by 25 runs in the 1st Plate Cricket Tournament underway at the Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium, Luwangshangbam today.
This was the 16th match of the tournament and the spectators were treated to some fine batting and bowling by the two sides, which played their hearts out.
Winning the toss, the THAU captain managed to read the pitch well and opted to bat first.
With the pitch not offering much help, the bowlers of WCA laboured against the frontline batsmen of THAU who correctly read the line and length of the ball to notch up a competitive total of 173 runs for 9 wickets in the allotted 35 overs.
Leading the charge for the THAU batsmen was Sunil who crafted a well made 50 runs off 54 balls, finding the gaps on either side of the wicket.
Stealing singles and twos with some quick running between the wickets and going for the big hits whenever a loose ball was delivered was the approach adopted by the batsmen of THAU and it paid dividends in the end.
Though Pritam and Chittaranjan did well in scalping three and two wickets each for WCA the other bowlers were unable to check the flow of runs which came from the blade of Sunil.
Sunil was ably assisted by Gelson who made a fine 37 runs off 48 balls and a quick fire 20 runs off 19 ball from Sanjit.
On being put into bat, WCA came out strongly, with Nanao leading the way with 52 runs off 59 balls, but there no notable contributions from the other batsmen, who perished while going for the big shots to reach the target of 174.Extracting bounce and keeping a tight line and length, Kala of THAU led the charge with the ball returning an impressive figure of 5 wickets.
Prasanta was also among the wicket takers scalping two wickets.
Apart from Nanao who crafted a well made score of 52 runs, only Premjit with 17 runs off 27 balls and Mydon who compiled a painstaking 14 runs off 45 balls, came up with some commendable batting to lend respectability to the score of WCA.
Under the incisive attack from the bowlers of THAU, WCA could manage a score of only 148 runs off 7 overs in the allotted 35 overs to fall short by 25 runs.
For his craftily made 50 runs, Sunil of THAU bagged the man of the match award.
