Blow to MNPF leadership: AR

Continuing with aggressive and proactive operations, Assam Rifles reportedly apprehended top leadership of Manipur Naga People's Front (MNPF) and handed them over to Manipur Police yesterday.
According to a statement issued by PRO IGAR (S), based on inputs from own sources and Manipur Police, Assam Rifle check post at Khudengthabi was alerted.
While checking a Maruti Van MN 01- S- 3200, Joy Kasong, Defence Secretary, K Simrai Advisor to MNPF and Khangum Kshung, PRO of the group, were apprehended by 24 AR of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under aegis of HQ IGAR(South) when they were moving from Moreh towards Imphal.
MNPF is a breakaway faction of MNRF which split in March 2011. During joint interrogation with police, it was revealed that the group has a camp in Myanmar and is supported by PLA and PREPAK.
The leaders also agreed that the cadres of group are active in Ukhrul District.
The apprehension of top leadership of the group by Assam Rifles has resulted in serious blow to MNPF.
This operation demonstrates strict vigil and alertness by Assam Rifles in Manipur who are relentlessly operating in the state towards restoring peace and normalcy, the PRO said.
In another incident, based on specific intelligence regarding movement of UG cadres, troops of 16 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector AR under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) launched an operation in general area Gwaltabi, and apprehended one PREPAK cadre on 13 Feb 2014.The apprehendee was identified as No- 221, Rank- CPL, Batch No- 16, Meira Singh alias Govind Singh alias Sunil Singh, aged 28 yrs, S/o Ashangbam Ibotambi Singh, resident of Gwaltabi, PO- Litan, PS- Lamlai, Dist- Imphal East.
The apprehendee was handed over to Lamlai Police Station, the PRO added.
