Duties and Responsibilities of DDOs

As part of the awareness campaign launched by the Income Tax Department for the benefit of Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) of different Government Colleges and higher educational institutions in the State, a seminar on Duties and Responsibilities of DDOs under the Income Tax Act 1961 was jointly organized by Commissioner of Income Tax (TDS), NE Region, Guwahati and Directorate of Education (University & Higher Education), Government of Manipur at the Conference Hall of Directorate of Education (University & Higher Education) here today.
Giving the key note address, C Deepak Singh, IRS, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax (TDS), NER, Guwahati underlined the paramount role of the Income Tax Department in the collection of revenue and informed that about 60 percent of the taxes of Government of India is collected by the department.
Noting that taxes are the cost of civilization, he stated that Income Tax Department has been a proud partner in the nation building process through progressive tax policy, efficient and effective tax administration and improved voluntary compliance.
The TDS collection from the State of Manipur witnessed a growth of more than 40 percent during the Financial Year 2012-13 making the State the fastest growing State in the north eastern region and one of the fasting growing States in the country, he maintained.
