Truck tyres deflated

All four tyres of four loaded trucks heading for Imphal from Dimapur were deflated by some unidentified persons suspected to be cadres of an underground group between Phisama and Kijama at around 11.30 pm of February 12. The suspected underground cadres halted the trucks and pierced through all four tyres of each truck using sharp and pointed weapons, informed a source.
The first two trucks bearing registration numbers MN-07C/3116 and AS-17/6385 were carrying rice, the third (NL-01C/4761 was carrying assorted goods while the fourth truck (NL-01/4436) was loaded with an excavator.
The first three trucks are ten wheelers while the fourth truck is a six wheeler.
It is reported that the trucks were attacked in connection with monetary demand.
Manipur Drivers Welfare Association general secretary Mutum Tomba informed that the trucks have reached Imphal after their flattened tyres were repaired with the help of Kohima District Land Transport and Trade Union.
The union has also strongly condemned the act of vandalism.
Tomba also conveyed gratitude to Kohima District Land Transport and Trade Union president Mukle Angami and his team for their help.
He appealed to all UG groups not to target drivers, handymen or vehicles but communicate with vehicles owners for all cases related to monetary demands.
He further appealed to ATSUM to call off their proposed economic blockade in the interest of student community and general public.
