Sports and youth policy to be revised soon, says YAS Minister

The Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS), Govindas Konthoujam has hinted at revising the Sports and Youth Policy in the State soon during a press conference held at his office chamber in connection with the North East Regional Sports Week to be hosted at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex and SAI NERC, Imphal from April 28 to May 3 as a part of the "75th Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" celebration.
Mention may be made that the regional sports week, likely to be opened by Union Sports Minister, will see players from across the North East States compete in Archery, Badminton, Football, Boxing and Table Tennis.

Urging all sections of the society to make the event successful, the YAS Minister stated that the event was allocated to Imphal considering the achievement of the State players at the National and International arenas.
The closing function of the regional sports week will be held on May 4 in Assam which will also host cultural events like singing and dancing.
The President of India will be gracing the closing function, he added.
Acknowledging the need for ensuring latest infrastructure to the players, he stressed on the need for proper maintenance of existing infrastructure which was installed ahead of the 5th National Games.
Maintaining that sports infrastructure development in some districts have been put on hold due to some pending CBI cases, he informed media persons efforts are underway to see feasibility of handing over the work to a third party so that the progress of work is not hindered.
The Minister also stressed on the need for endorsing scientific approaches for better results.
Emphasis on development of Sports Medicine and ensuring latest kits to players are must, he added.
On being asked about the absence of separate quarters for "Chowkidars" of different stadia in Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, the Minister assured that arrangement for setting up of quarters for chowkidars for Indoor Stadium, Main Stadium and Hockey Stadium will be made at the earliest.
When asked from which fund the Government is going to make the arrangements, the Minister replied that the Government had recently received some fund under Khelo India.
The fund was withheld in view of Election Code of Conduct, but the State Government is set to seek necessary approval and clearance for utilising the fund in some infrastructural development very soon, he said.
During the event the Minister also handed over appointment letters to one W Indrajit (LDC post), son of late Physical Edn Teacher of YAS, Y Kullachandra and one Premlata (Youth Officer post), wife of late jamadar of Manipur Rifles, W Ronald who succumbed to Covid in line of duty, under die-in-harness scheme.
The press meet was also attended by SS Chhabra, IFS, Principal Secretary YAS; T Phulen Meitei, Director YAS; L Jayenta Singh, Joint Secretary YAS and other officials.
