National seminar on 'Water resources and livelihood issues in NE India' begins

A 2-days national seminar on "Water resources and livelihood issues in North East India" organised by Geography Department of Moirang College, Moirang in association with Centre for Alternative Discourse Manipur began on Monday at the Conference hall of Moirang college.
The seminar conducted with the assistance of North Eastern Council Ministry of DONER, Shillong, Government of India was attended by Vice Chancellor Manipur University Professor, N Lokendro Singh; Moirang College Principal, Professor Kh Jugindro Singh; Manipur University Geography Department HOD, Professor Kh Pradeep Singh and Delhi University Political Science Department, Associate Professor Dr Tanvir Aeijaz as presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof N Lokendro Singh stressed on the importance of conserving water scientifically and stated that urbanisation has played a major role in the depletion of water bodies.
In the context of Loktak lake, he mentioned that the construction of barrage and lack of proper drainage/canal system has disrupted the natural water management process of the lake.
He further mentioned that the seminar will be vital in spreading awareness to the public on water management.
It may be mentioned that 31 resource persons from all over the country also gave presentations on different topics at the seminar.
