Brother saves brother, loses life

Kangpokpi, April 11 2022:
A mother in Chandel's Boljang village had to bid a 'adieu' to her elder son who is currently appearing in the ongoing HSLC examination after he lost his life while saving his brother from drowning in the Chakpi river on April 9 .
According to the cousin brother of the deceased, Minthang, the two brothers Thangminjoy and Thangjalen had gone to Chakpi river to wash their clothes at around noon.
After a few minutes, Thangminjoy saw his younger brother Thangjalen struggling in the water, and without a second thought and hesitation, he jumped into the river and pulled out his brother and saved him but lost his own life in the process.
His lifeless body was found later by a search party from the village who rushed to the spot on learning of the incident.

Nengboi Baite, mother of the deceased, a resident of Boljang village in Sugnu in Chandel district had become a widow after her husband Seimang Khongsai passed away years back and had to solely depend upon her eldest son Thangminjoy Baite (16) .
Nengboi Baite said that Thangminjoy was the only hope after his father passed away.
Being the eldest, Thangminjoy was very understanding and thoughtful, she added.
"I am proud of my son's bravery and heroic act in saving his brother's life", the helpless mother said while adding that he sacrificed his life to give me his brother's life.
She expressed remorse that she had lots of fate in him but everything crumbled within a blink of eyes.
Thangminjoy Baite was a student of St Joseph's Higher Secondary School, Sugnu.
Meanwhile, when the news of the incident was posted on Facebook, Kuki actor Paolen Kom was completely moved by the story and immediately sought the sympathy of Chief Minister N Biren Singh and his Cabinet colleagues to help the poor mother.
The actor posted on his wall about the heartbreaking story and prayed for helping the poor mother while seeking the sympathy of Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
The actor also said the deceased Thangminjoy Baite deserves a nomination for " Jeevan Raksha Padak" for his heroic act and bravery in saving his brother's life.
