Imphal, April 11 2022:
Like every year, Martyrs' Day would be observed on April 13 and families of the deceased have appealed to the people to pay floral tributes at the memorial site located at Cheiraoching in Thangmeiband from 6am to 5pm.Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Monday, Naorem Ibohanbi, a member of one of the families of the martyrs, informed that every year floral tributes are paid to the nine departed souls who were killed by security forces in the Kodompokpi incident on April 13, 1982 at Cheiraoching memorial site.
Due to the restriction of the government, they were not able to pay such tribute properly.
As such, a writ petition was filed in the High Court.
Accordingly, the court issued an order to allow paying of tributes at Cheiraoching from 6am to 5pm by following the SOP laid down by the government, he added.
As the court has allowed hiking to Cheiraoching and paying tribute at the memorial site on Martyrs' Day, Ibohanbi appealed to relatives and friends to visit the site and pay tribute to them.
He further urged organisations not to call any bandh or blockade on the said day.
