Host Manipur maintained its stranglehold on the North East Zone Sports Climbing Competition wresting the championship title of the 10th edition held at Kangla Rock Wall, Minuthong.
Manipur also won the previous ninth editions of the competition.
At the end of the competition (Sept 29-Oct 3) organised by Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association in collaboration with North East Zone Sports Climbing Committee under the aegis of Indian Mountaineering Foundation, the hosts bagged a total of 29 medals including eight gold, 10 silver and 11 bronze medals.
Meghalaya climbers secured six gold, two silver and three bronze for the runners-up title as Arunachal Pradesh settled for the third position on two gold, four silver and two bronze.
Nagaland climbers failed to open the medal account.
H Raju of manipur was declared the 'best male climber' with the honour in the women's section going to Wungsuk Myrthong of Meghalaya.
Closing ceremony of the competition was held with Commissioner (Youth Affairs and Sports) L Lakher (IAS) and MMTA's founder president RK Ranendrajit as the chief guest and president respectively while Observer, Indian Mountaineering Foundation Col (Retd) Amit Roy, president of Manipur Olympic Association E Binoykumar and Commandant 88 Bn BSF Sham Kapoor graced the occasion as guest of honour and special guest respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Sham Kapoor congratulated the participants, medal winners in particular, and promised the BSF's support in promoting the sport.
While expressing his willingness to allow/send interested BSF personnel undertake the adventure sport under the objective that it would added to their physical and mental toughness, the special guest taking note of immense talents sportspersons of Manipur possess also exuded confidence that with proper encouragement and better opportunities the youth of Manipur could be guided to focus their talent and energies in positive and constructive purposes.
