Imphal, October 04:
As the Government and its agencies have not done anything to improve condition of the Inter-Village Road from Pallel to Aimol Tampak for the last 30 years, the villagers themselves have taken up the onus of repairing the said road contributing whatever they could physically and financially.
Nonetheless, the villagers have expressed their desire for the Government to pay attention and take up necessary measures for development of the road to suit the changing time.
Being the only lifeline of the people living in villages like Aimol Khullen, Chandonpokpi, Ngairol, Khudangphai, Aimol Tampak, Chinunghut, Khunyai, Kumbirol and Sattu under Tengnoupal sub-division, the work for repairing of the Inter-Village Road had been included by the Government in the work programme of the PWD in 1970 .
However, all these years, the authorities concerned have not taken up any step towards repairing of the road thereby causing severe inconveniences to the villagers.
In such a situation, Aimol Tribe Union, Manipur and Aimol Students' Union, Manipur took up the initiative of organising the villagers in repairing the road.
Apart from collecting a small amount from each of the households, one person from each of the families volunteered to take part in the road repairing work which began from October 2 .
It is said that over the years the actual width of the Inter-Village Road stretching from Pallel to Aimol Tampak and covering a distance of about 6 kms, has also been reduced drastically by encroachers on either side causing inconveniences to movement of vehicles and commuters alike.
But the authorities concerned have not taken up any steps to evict the encroachers.
the villagers also desired that along with expansion of the road it should be developed to suit with the need of the time.
On the other hand, it is said that Aid Centre of the Veterinary Department and the PHSC at Aimol Tampak are ill-equipped to cater to the growing population of the area.
In this regard, the villagers have appealed to the Government for upgrading the Aid Centre to the level of a Veterinary Hospital and the Primary Health Sub-Centre to a Primary Health Centre.
