Imphal, October 04:
The Chothe Tribe Union is demanding a separate Autonomous District Council constituency by grouping 15 Chothe villages located in the North West of Chandel block in Chandel district.
Speaking to reporters her this evening, president of Chothe Tribe Union Paul Khiangte Chothe said that the Union submitted a memorandum to the Delimitation Commission for a separate ADC constituency on July 15 this year.
Copies of the memorandum were also submitted to the two MLAs of Chandel district, the DC and the SDO.
However, in total contradiction to the memorandum, the ADC segment list published recently grouped the 15 Chothe villages with other villages under 9-Khongdei Khunou ADC segment.
Moreover, two Chothe villagesLungleh and Purum Chumband were included in two separate ADC segments, Paul said.
He demanded that these Chothe villages should be included in 9-Khongdei Khunou and the same ADC segment should be named 9-Wangparal segment.
To achieve these demands, the Union will do it can including general strikes and blockade, if necessary, Paul stated.
At present, the Chothe tribe settle at 18 villages of which 15 are located in Chandel block, two in Bishnupur and one at Khongkhang near Moreh.
Significantly, the 15 Chothe villages in Chandel block are located within a radius of 10 kms.
With the Chothe villages kept apart from each other by political workers for the last many years, it was hard to put up even an ADC representative, leaving aside MLA, he decried.
Paul asserted that their demand to rename 9-Khongdei Khunou segment as 9-Wangparal segment and to include the two Chothe village which have been put under other ADC segments under 9-Wangparal segment was justified and the same should be fulfilled at the earliest.
