A one day district level interaction programme for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) and health care providers was held here at Hamleikhong today under the aegis of Population Foundation of India (PFI) and Ukhrul Network for Positive People (UNP+).
Speaking on the occasion, State programme coordinator of PFI, Archana said, the main objective of the progamme is to reduce the growth of of HIV/AIDS in Ukhrul district which is at alarming rate.
While emphasising upon the need to bring awareness about the dreaded disease among the masses, the coordinator said, the role of Church leaders and other concerned organisations including various NGOs is required to sensitise the masses on how to fight against the social stigma and discrimination.
Ukhrul ART medical officer, Dr Chandramani Singh maintained that around 300 persons are currently availing ART facility in the district.
Revealing his findings till September, Chandramani said, the enrolment of CD4 count touches 632 clients and out of which 401 of them are now provided with ART facility free of cost, he added.
Among others, the programme was marked by the presence of Asst Pastor of Ukhrul Town Baptist Church and social activists representing various NGOs in the region.
