Under-scoring the need to protect the Himalayan mountain system in view of the adverse changes being witnessed in its eco-systems, the first Himalayan Day was observed today.
The main function was held at Gandhi Peace Foundation, Delhi with noted environmentalist Sunder Lal Bahuguna.
A rough draft of the Himalayan declaration which would be discussed for one full year was released at the Delhi function.
After year long debate and deliberation, the Himalayan Declaration would be formally released on September 9 next year at the second Himalayan Day celebration.
The first Himalayan Day was also observed at Henbung, Senapati district under the aegis of the Environment and Economic development Services (FEEDS) with KVK Sylvan.
The observance was graced by Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Dr S Singsit, Chief Conservator of Forest Dr DD Haokip, Northern Circle Conservator L Gopal and FEEDS -KVK president Haokholet Kipgen as presidium members.
Environmentalist Dr RK Ranjan delivered a speech on the Himalayan mountain as Head of Life Science Department, Mangolnganbi College Birjit Singh spoke on biodiversity and wildlife.
Seminar kicks off : A three day seminar on "Role of Librarians, Archivists and Writers in Preservation of National Heritage was opened today at Manipur University Library.
The seminar is being organised by Manipur University under the sponsorship of National Library, Kolkata.
