A fifteen-day long training programme on 'Preparation of Participatory Action Plan for Community based Water Management' has begun from today at ICAR, Manipur Centre, Lampheplat here.
Being organised under the aegis of ICAR Manipur Centre, the inaugural function of the training programme which would continue till March 30 was attended by Additional Director of Agriculture Department, Government of Manipur Palendra Singh as chief guest, Joint Director in-charge of ICAR Dr IM Singh as functional president and head of Agronomy Department of Central Agriculture University (CAU) L Nabachandra Singh as guest of honour.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, Palendra Singh pointed out that even Manipur is a State where there is enough natural water resources, there is the problem of scarcity of water as the available water is not being managed properly.
Consequently, when other States are successfully taking up triple cropping, it is difficult even for single cropping in Manipur.
In order to solve this problem of water scarcity, preparation of an action plan on community based water management is essential, he noted, while outlining the importance of he training programme being conducted.
